Rudderless eight look to bounce back

Australia's men's eight rowing team will get another chance to make the Olympic finals today after a disastrous heat yesterday.

A rudder broke on the team's new boat during the race, leaving the rowers without steering.

They had to stop rowing to avoid a collision and eventually crossed the line to finish last.

Australian rowing team head Noel Donaldson says the team made the best of a bad situation, and will try to make up for it today.

"At that particular stage, you can't row for a position and hope you might pick someone else up," he said.

"They will just have to come thundering home and make sure they leave a couple behind them."
